August
MCA SHareOUT! was a mini-festival of works that were developed in a year of research supported by Chicago Dancemakers Forum. The event was produced and presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and curated by Yolanda Cursach Cesta Montilla.
Weekend 1
August 24 - 25, 2018

For the opening weekend, Victoria Bradford and Brittany Harlin activated the museum grounds, and Joshua L Ishmon and Rika Lin (aka Fujima Yoshinojo) shared a double bill using the theater. Bradford and electronics composer Todd Mattei transformed the building’s outdoor perimeter for a durational relay run that invites the public to join. In the theater, Ishmon and dancers performed Redefining BLACK to an original score by trumpeter/vocalist Sam “Trump” Harris, and Fujima Yoshinojo transgressed Japanese classical dance with Asobi: Playing within Time—a performance for four dancers with original video and music by Tatsu Aoki and Reduction Ensemble. Harlin’s dancers and a live band closed out each day in the Commons.

Weekend 2
August 31 - September 1, 2018

The closing weekend of SHareOUT! featured two firsts: a dance work for a theater stage by Daniel “BRAVEMONK” Haywood, cofounder/coartistic director of BraveSoul Movement and member of the internationally recognized breaking crew Phaze II Crosstown Crew, and the world debut of the Jazz Hoofing Quartet by tap artist Jumaane Taylor with Marlene Rosenberg (bass), Justin Dillard (piano), and Makaya McCraven (drums).
