Dance/USA is excited to present the 2023 Conference, June 13-16 in Atlanta, Georgia, Described as “the must-attend event of the national dance ecosystem,” the theme of this year’s conference is EMERGE | BECOME | MOVEDance/USA recognizes that for some, participation costs may be a barrier to attendance. Thanks to the generous support of the Walder Foundation, Dance/USA partnered with Chicago Dancemakers Forum to offer conference scholarships to Chicago area dance artists/administrators. These individual scholarships cover full conference registration and two nights stay at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta

Serving on the selection panel were Kennedy Ward, La Mar Brown, and Joanna Furnans. Non-voting members of the panel included Dr. Dorene Wiese, Eryn Jones, and Shawn Lent.
The deadline to apply has passed.
ELIGIBILITY (All must be true):
  • Currently and actively engaged in dance in the Chicago Metropolitan Area (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, or Will County)
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Black, Indigenous/Native, a Person of Color, Disabled, LGBTQIA+, and/or working with a company/collective that directly benefits these communities.
  • First-time attending a Dance/USA National Conference
  • Have the commitment and ability to attend both of the primary programming days of the 2023 Dance/USA Conference—June 14-15 in Atlanta, Georgia—providing your own transportation to Atlanta, meals during the conference, and a credit card for hotel incidentals at check-in
SELECTION CRITERIA (Priority is given to individuals who):
  • Clearly articulate why they would like to attend. What’s the value/benefit of attending the conference for the applicant and/or the applicant's extended dance community? 
  • Provide a bio or resume with examples of significant investment in, or contributions to, the field of dance. 
  • Demonstrate an interest in Chicago's representation and connection to the national dance landscape. (Note: the 2025 Dance/USA Conference will be held in Chicago.)
SELECTION AND REGISTRATION PROCESS:
  • A committee of local dance folx will select 10 scholarship recipients. They are looking to select a cohort representing a range of Chicago dance practices, forms, contexts, and communities. 
  • Black, Indigenous/Native, a Person of Color, Disabled, and/or LGBTQIA+ applicants will have priority.
  • If you receive a scholarship, you will be notified by April 27 and then be required to complete your conference registration and secure travel arrangement by May 4, 2023, and complete a short survey about your experience after the conference.

The questions can be answered either in written or video format. Your choice. There are no word count or duration minimums or limits, but we do encourage applicants to be mindful of the panelists' time while providing enough information to distinguish your application.
