La Mar Brown, Operations Manager (he/him), is an arts manager, producer, dancer, and singer. After relocating to Chicago from Dallas, TX, he completed his Master of Arts Management at Columbia College Chicago. As the Operations Manager for Chicago Dancemakers Forum, La Mar manages functions to support administrative, fundraising, and programming activities. La Mar’s other administrative credits include Company Manager, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago; Box Office Supervisor, Writers Theatre; Project Coordinator, The Ruth Page Center for the Arts; and Associate Patron Services Manager, the AT&T Performing Arts Center (Dallas, TX). His administrative work has included budget creation and reconciliation, organizational compliance and licensure, oversight of logistics for domestic and international touring, main line producing for performances and choreographic work, and event management for performances and special events. This included events for touring Broadway productions, TITAS productions, The Dallas Opera, Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Black Dance Theater, and Texas Ballet Theatre.
La Mar’s performance credits include Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Porchlight Music Theatre, The Dallas Metropolitan Ballet, The Dallas Opera, CATS! as Mr. Mistoffelees – Garland Summer Musicals, The Boy from Oz, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, and Ragtime – Uptown Players, and “The Friends of Tyme” – Larwell Productions (for the annual Mary Kay conventions).
In 2022, La Mar was selected as a cohort member of the Leadership Institute with Young Nonprofit Professional Network Chicago. He also has served as coach in the “Art of Rehearsal” process for Link’s Halls Co-Mission Artist Program since 2022. He strives to continually build skills and knowledge to better aid the artistic creation through thoughtful administrative and operation processes.
