LAB ARTIST 2019
Jane Jerardi is a Chicago-based artist working in the media of choreography, performance, video installation, and writing. In observing the ordinary and even awkward, she sorts out and enunciates the unexpectedly beautiful. She has created work since 1998. Her work has been presented by such spaces as the Joyce Soho and Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church (in New York); Links Hall, 6018North, Sector 2337, and defibrillator performance gallery (in Chicago); at Transformer, The Warehouse, Dance Place, and the Kennedy Center (in Washington, DC), among others. A recipient of the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities’ Artist Fellowship and a three-time recipient of its Young Emerging Artist award, she has also received support through its New Media grant program. Her work has been commissioned by the Creative Communities Fund and the Washington Performing Arts Society and supported through creative residencies at Links Hall and Sector 2337. In addition, she works to document live performance in her work as a videographer, editor, and archivist, primarily for the Dance Center at Columbia College Chicago, where she is also on faculty.
