Chicago Dancemakers Forum Announces the Open Call for the 2022 Lab Artists Program
Chicago Dancemakers Forum announces a citywide open call for its core granting program for local artists. In 2022, up to six Chicago-based dancemakers will each receive a cash grant of $20,000 USD along with a year of tailored support to aid in their research, development, and presentation of new dance work. The Lab Artists program is the most significant, sustained source of support for individual dancemakers working in Chicago, which has an open call process. Potential applicants are encouraged to fully review the program guidelines and application timeline.
The past 72 Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab Artists are diverse in age, gender, race, local geography, and dance discipline, working in Tap, Bharatanatyam, Chicago Footwork, dance for the camera, Voguing, contemporary, modern dance, and more. Many of these artists have built national audiences and international recognition since receiving support from Chicago Dancemakers Forum and, collectively, represent the distinct character and power of new dance made in Chicago.
Prior to the preliminary round deadline on August 8, six optional informational sessions are offered to assist potential applicants, answer questions, and provide feedback on draft application materials. Both in-person and virtual sessions are offered. Space is limited; registration is required.
Attending an info session is NOT a requirement to apply, but it is encouraged. Artists may attend multiple info sessions.
