Dance Video Presentation with Lucy Baldwyn
May 2005

On May 10, 2005, London-based dance filmmaker Lucy Baldwyn presented a video showing of her films It’s aching like birds (2006), Dark (2003) and There will be something later (2005). She led a fascinating discussion about dance, film, and the nature of  cross-disciplinary collaboration. The event was free and held at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Lucy Baldwyn has been making video for live performance, installation and gallery spaces as well as choreographing for film since 2000. She uses choreography as a research tool by investigating what works for film, what works for live performance, and collaborating with other dance artists such as Belgian choreographer Filip van Huffel and Lin Hixson of Goat Island. Her dance films have screened in Montreal, Chicago, Sydney, Edinburgh and London as well as numerous international festivals; her video installations have been commissioned for galleries including the Tate Modern and the Baltic Gallery in Newcastle, England. Lucy Baldwyn trained in theater and performance at Bristol University and in dance and choreography at Birbeck College in London. She was a 2005 Visiting Artist in the Performance Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
