MONDAY, APRIL 7: SALON WITH LITO´ WALKEY

Litó Walkey is a member of the Chicago-based performance company Goat Island. Based in Berlin, she is currently in Chicago for Goat Island's performance, The LastMaker at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Since joining the company in 2002, she has continued to work with European colleagues (Vera Mantero, Paz Rojo, Sabina Holzer, and Boris Hauf) and to initiate her own creations. Her independent work acknowledges the phenomena of human limitation, accident and attention, to highlight what emerges or is already present between people. Insisting that it is unnecessary for dance to be centered in self-expression, or reserved for the professionally trained performer or audience member, Walkey's work investigates dance as a live activity, an activity that evolves from a shared process of creative response to another being, subject or situation.

On April 7, Litó will present video excerpts of her works, with particular emphasis on her newest creation, A dramatic turn of events occurs, a duet with Carlos Pez which will premiere in Germany in Oct 2008. 9 years after its original creation, this solo is joined by a second performer, as a theatrical demonstration and a history of friendship. A lively discussion is sure to follow about the creative process, the Goat Island experience, and Lito's solo practice.
